How I define MicroSaaS
MicroSaaS is a SaaS product that solves a microproblem for a micromarket with a microteam and a microbudget being happy with microgrowth
How I define MicroSaaS
This is probably the blog post I should’ve started with but I couldn’t figure out a definition myself.
The reason - I look at MicroSaaS as a movement, maybe a mindset, not a categorisation. I use the word “MicroSaaS” because it’s easy to throw around.
After forcing myself to be a bit objective (and looking at how the internet defines MicroSaaS), this is how I would define it
“MicroSaaS is a SaaS product that solves a microproblem for a micromarket with a microteam and a microbudget being happy with microgrowth”
Microteam
A microteam usually has about 1 - 3 members, usually being equal stakeholders.
Micromarket
A micromarket is a niche target audience with very specific needs that are currently unsolved by existing SaaS products.
Microproblem
A microproblem is a specific, niche problem that a group of users face. These problems are usually subset of a problem solved by existing SaaS products.
Microbudget
A microbudget is an essentials only budget that usually comes from the founders’ pocket before the product starts making revenue.
Microgrowth
Microgrowth is any amount of small growth (sometimes no growth) that keeps the company profitable.
This framing of MicroSaaS is still evolving in my head. In the future versions of the newsletter, I will probably expand on each of the sections.
